2010 Distinguished Citizens Awards

On February 24th, close to 300 Lansing Area community leaders and guests attended 2010 Distinguished Citizens Award Banquet held at Michigan State Universities Spartan Club. The Chief Okemos Council, Boy Scouts of America, presented the 2010 Distinguished Citizen Award to: Dr. Stephen Guertin with Sparrow Hospital PICU, Sheri Jones with WLNS Channel 6 and Stuart Dunnings Jr. with Dunnings Law Firm.

The Distinguished Citizen Award was first presented by the Chief Okemos Council in 1977 to honor outstanding individuals serving the Greater Lansing area. These individuals have dedicated themselves to their professions, the community and the support of youth programs.

The Council also presented a rare honor – the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award – to Dr. E. James Potchen of Michigan State University. Currently there are 2 million Eagle Scouts throughout the United States, and less than 2,000 have received this prestigious award. To qualify for this award the recipient must have had distinguished service in his profession and to his community for a period of at least twenty-five years after attaining the level of Eagle Scout.

This year’s event celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, and the past recipients of the Distinguished Citizen Award were recognized with a special pin. The Council was very fortunate to have Posh Events coordinate the 2010 celebration, making it a wonderful evening.
