2011 WORLD JAMBOREE IN SWEDEN!

The 22nd World Scout Jamboree will take place from July 27 to August 7, 2011 in Sweden, not far from the Copenhagen, Denmark, Airport. Around 40,000 youth and adults from around the world are expected to attend. A World Jamboree is a unique opportunity to experience world Scouting.  The jamboree web site at http://www.worldscoutjamboree.se/ has detailed information about the jamboree program.

BSA participation in this jamboree will include jamboree troops and crews, each composed of 36 youth and 4 adults, as well as jamboree staff. World Jamboree troops and crews are very similar to National Jamboree troops. However, World Jamboree troops are organized by region, not by each council, and World Jamboree Venturing crews are coed.

To participate, Scouts or Venturers must be between the ages of 14 and 17 on July 27, 2011 (born between July 25, 1993, and July 27, 1997), and must be registered as a Boy Scout or Venturer at the time of the jamboree. (Girls who are too young to be Venturers now but will qualify to be Venturers by the time of the jamboree may apply.) Adult leaders for jamboree troops and crews will be selected from among the applicants by the region office.

BSA troops and crews will fly to Copenhagen Airport, travel to the jamboree site, participate in the jamboree, travel back to the Copenhagen airport, and fly back to the USA. Because of the high cost of travel in Scandinavia with large groups, there will be no touring on the trip. The basic package plan is $3,525 (plus a nonrefundable application fee of $10) and includes travel from the assigned gateway city, all meals, unit and patrol equipment, accident and sickness insurance, regional and national office administrative/program support, and buses for ground transportation to/from the jamboree site. Cost does not include travel to or from the gateway city, required uniforms and equipment, or passport.

Anyone who will be 18 or older at the time of the jamboree can apply through BSA to be part of the World Jamboree staff. Staff members are expected to arrive at the jamboree site on July 25, two days before the start of the jamboree, and to depart from the jamboree site on August 8, one day after the end of the jamboree. The basic BSA jamboree staff package, which includes all meals, accident and sickness insurance, a tent at the jamboree, and regional and national office administrative/program support, costs $1,750 (plus a non-refundable application fee of $10) for staff members between 18 and 25 years old and $1,950 (plus a non-refundable application fee of $10) for staff members over 26 years old. This cost does not include airfare. Jamboree staff members are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the jamboree site and any sightseeing they would like to do before or after the jamboree.

There is detailed information about how to become part of the BSA contingent to this World Jamboree at http://www.scouting.org/worldjamboree.aspx
